New Year's Resolutions

What with it being the 30th and all, I figured it was time to write up some resolutions. Here's a list of things I want to do/get done in 2011:

1. Start some sort of regular exercise besides rollerblading

2. Get a part time job

3. Have at least $7,000 in my savings by 12-31-11

4. Write more often, short stories, blogs, my NaNo novel

5. Become a Script Frenzy Winner!

6. Become a NaNoWriMo Winner!

7. Rock out at Talya’s wedding

8. Tone my thighs

9. Get my GPA up to a 3.3 or 3.4

10. Wear more cute clothing

11. Be Happy!

Passing My Classes!

After a truly grueling semester, I received the most wonderful news the other day. I PASSED ALL OF MY CLASSES! And not only that, I ended up with a GPA of 3.12! Which (while not exactly a 4.0) is fan-fucking-tastic! I am so happy, and super super proud of myself.
See, I have this problem with school. When things gets too hard, I give up. I stop caring and tell the world to go fuck itself. But the last couple of years I’ve been trying to teach myself to stick with things. Even if they’re looking impossible, it’s better to tough it out than to quit.
And you know what? It’s paying off. There were about a million times that I wanted to drop my chemistry class this semester. But I kept telling myself ‘just finish the semester’. It was possible that I would have to re-take the class anyway if I failed it. But if I dropped it, I would definitely have to re-take it. (And this was already my second time through General Chemistry II) I’m so glad I stuck with it.
Now I can head into the new semester with my head held high, super excited. I even bought all my text books already. (By the way, if you know anyone who might want a college level chemistry text book… I’m trying to get rid of mine).

In other news, some of my close friends and I have started a writing group. We meet Mondays and Thursdays online. We read and write short stories, work on our novels and generally have a good time. There is much joking around and playfulness, and a touch of seriousness. Come check us out!

I wanted to share my December reading list with you all out there in cyber-space (ugh, does anyone else still say cyber-space? No? Just me?) so here it is:
A Passage to India by E. M. Forster
White Tiger by Aravind Adiga
The Awakening by Kate Chopin
Player Piano by Kurt Vonnegut
Stardust by Neil Gaiman and
Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King (if I can get my paws on a copy that won’t set me back $30)

Alright folks. Move along. Nothing to see here. Shoo! But come back later for more, okay?

December So Far...

Happy December everyone! I hope that any holidays you celebrate are either a) going well or b) going to be amazing!
I thought I'd post a quick update and let you know a few of the Things I'm Doing in December!

First off, in the wake of NaNoWriMo , I'm still feeling fairly creative. So I've been working on a short story. I've got a few bits written so far, and you can check them out over at the Online Writing Group I started with a few of my good friends. Check it out, I think you can ask for an invite on the site if you're interested, if not, comment here or feel free to e-mail me! (annrkey@rock.com)

Next I've been listening to some audio books. I've got a 40 minute commute to school and back everyday, so I finally decided to pick up an audio book to listen to in the car. I listened to the first 20 minutes in my car, and finished the other 13 and something hours at home over the weekend. I'd really forgotten how much I loved Dracula.

I hadn't read it since high school, and I'd apparently forgotten large chunks, or simply missed them the first time thorough. Well worth a second read!

Third, I thought I'd share a song that I've been listening to almost nonstop for the past... longer than I want to admit to. :o) It's a fantastic song called Through the Roof 'n' Underground by Gogol Bordello.

It's featured in the movie Wristcutters: A Love Story (which I need to blog about sometime, seriously, bug me about it folks).
(link to the video) Okay, I think that's about it for now! Check back later for more Things I'm Doing in December!
