Day 19

When I told you that I was 'giving up' the movie review project, what I really meant was that I was taking a break from it. I was so determined to finish that stupid project that I was letting it get in the way of other posts I wanted to write. But now I'm back to that project, and of my own free will too. So without further delay:

Day 19: Big Nothing

I've been a fan of Simon Pegg since I first saw him in Shaun of the Dead waaay back in 2004, so of course when I found out that Big Nothing was streaming on Netflix, I had to see it. I'm sorry to say that I was a little bit disappointed. Not to say that it wasn't an interesting movie, it was. Big Nothing has everything from out-of-work writers to corrupt priests and frustrating cubicle jobs, but for some reason or other, I just couldn't get into the movie. The movie centers around Charlie, an out-of-work teacher who takes a dead-end cubicle job to help makes ends meet for him and his family. When he gets canned (on his first day) he teams up with a scam artist named Gus to try to blackmail a corrupt priest. There's really nothing missing in the plot, it's funny in an almost irreverent way, and there are plenty of What-the-hell? moments. Overall, I liked it, but it was nowhere near as wonderful as Shaun of the Dead or some of Simon Pegg's other works. It's a fine movie, I was just expecting something a little more from Simon Pegg I suppose.

Anyway, I liked the movie enough to give it ★★★, and I suppose I would even recommend it to any fans of bizarre and irreverent comedy looking to pass a few hours with an interesting movie.

Of course, if you'd like to see for yourself, I found this nifty trailer that you can watch:

If you're still interested, the movie is currently (as of 2-23-12) streaming on Netflix, or available for purchase over at YouTube. And if you've already seen the movie, please share your thoughts on it here!
