Skating

I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but I go skating (rollerblading) every weekend with my boyfriend and whoever else we can drag along. We typically go on Sunday nights. It's gotten to the point that we are considered regulars at our skating rink. We're friendly with the staff and the other regulars and we always have a great time.
This week I went on Saturday night, sans boyfriend but with some awesome friends from school.
I'm telling you all this so I'll have an excuse to post a picture of the totally cute outfit I wore:

I picked up the shirt at a thrift store yesterday, it says Crazy on the Inside, and I love it! I usually just wear jeans and a t-shirt when I go skating, but this week I felt like dressing up, and I'm glad I did!

Just After Sunset

I just finished reading Stephen King's latest collection of short stories, Just After Sunset.

His short story collections are my favorite things to read. Don't get me wrong, I love his novels, but the short stories are like little bites of King to keep me full between large novel meals!
While this one wasn't my favorite of his collections (I think that would be Nightmares & Dreamscapes) it's very good.

Some of my favorite stories were:
The Gingerbread Girl
N.
A Very Tight Place
The Stationary Bike

I would recomend this book to any Stephen King fan, or really just anyone who likes short stories of the creepy variety.

On another note, my Shelfari book club is looking for both new members, and a good book to read for September! So come and join us and read with us Why don't you?

Web Comics

I’ve been reading web comics since I was in high school, at least 8 years now, which seems like a really long time to me. I’ve also been reading some really awesome graphic novels lately and that’s made me appreciate that I can get all of these phenomenal stories for free online, updated several times a week! See with graphic novels (or at least the ones I’ve been reading) the story always ends. But with web comics, it seems like there are always updates, always new things going on. It’s kind of like a soap opera; I log onto my computer and see what my favorite characters are up to every day!

So I thought I’d take a moment here to share with you some of my favorite web comics!

I’ve been reading these comics for years now, they’re some of the first comics I started reading on the web.

Something*PositiveThis comic is written and drawn by Randy Milholland. I’ve been reading this one since June of 2004, so about 6 years now, and it’s still my favorite comic of all time. It’s well worth checking out.

Questionable Content This comic is written and drawn by Jeph Jacques. It’s about the lives of Martin and Faye and Pintsize and Dora and Sven and Hannelore and Steve and Marigold and Angus…. And the list goes on. It’s funny, you should check it out!

Least I Could DoThis comic is written by Ryan Sohmer and drawn by the very talented Lar deSouza. The writing is witty, the stories are funny and the drawing is beautiful. Go read it!

Girls With Slingshots This comic is written and drawn by the very talented Danielle Corsetto. I got into this comic when it crossed over with S*P, I got sucked into the story immediately and I’ve been there ever since! It’s a wonderful story with really interesting characters, and now it’s in color! What more could you want?

Okay, so those are some of *my* favorite web comics. What are some of yours?

Reading!

Hey there everyone! Guess what I've been doing, go on... guess! That's right, I've been reading, a lot! I joined Shelfari and started a Book Club!
For July we read Bonk! By Mary Roach. It's a book about the history of sex research, and it's both funny and fascinating. Mary Roach is truly a phenomenal writer with a great sense of humor. A. J. Jacobs (author of The Year of Living Biblically) put it best when he said "I would read Mary Roach on the history of Quonset huts. But Mary Roach on sex? That's a godsend!"
For August we read (or are still reading) Seth Grahame-Smith's fantastically funny adaptation, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies . I don't know what I can say about this book, except that it's exactly what it claims to be. Jane Austin's classic novel Pride and Prejudice, only with more zombies! I'll give you a little idea of what I'm talking about here, "It is a truth universally acknowledged that a zombie in possession of brains must be in want of more brains." See what I'm talking about?
Right now I'm taking suggestions for September's BotM (Book of the Month). So come check out the BOOK CLUB and read with us!
